Haemorrhoids are small, blood-filled swellings caused by dilated varicose veins. At first, they are located just inside the anus but can sometimes protrude. Haemorrhoids are not dangerous but they can be painful and uncomfortable. Many people have haemorrhoids at some point in their lives. Constipation and prolonged straining when using the toilet are believed to contribute to the formation of haemorrhoids by increasing the pressure in the veins. Haemorrhoids are also very common during and after pregnancy, and in those who may be carrying a few extra pounds.
As we head into the silly season, many of my patients are asking me the same question: Is there a remedy for a hangover? The answer is a definite yes! Choose one of the following hangover remedies according to your most prominent symptoms.
Q: Hi! I was wondering if you might have an idea of a remedy for my 9-year-old son who is always hot in his head and neck area, and complains of nausea when the temperature gets close to 68 degrees or above. Even when his hands are cold, he still says he’s hot.
Q: I was listening to your talk on 702 a while ago. I really would like to try a natural remedy for post-nasal drip. I have used tablets with cortisone in them, plus other tablets from the chemist. They help for a while then it starts up again, especially at night, and I start coughing.
What is cholera?
Cholera is an acute bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, which lives in water. The illness is transmitted to humans through eating or drinking food or water that is contaminated with the bacteria.
Q: Is there anything you would recommend for a horse with degenerative joint disease (manifests itself much like osteoarthritis). She is stiff and excessive work/work on hard ground makes hind fetlock joints puffy but not hot. Obviously painful as she appears lethargic but I think this is more reluctance to cause herself pain than actual lethargy. Would the dilution be different for a horse?
Q: A lady I know is 76 years old and was diagnosed with breast cancer a while ago. Unfortunately, she suffered a stroke earlier this year. She is getting weak and due to her stroke is unfortunately not as mobile as she was (partial paralysis of her right side). She is on cancer medication and this may be the cause of her weakness, but in essence, is there something she can take to boost her energy levels.
Q: Hi Genie – please advise which remedy is to be used for loss of taste and smell. Thank you.
I remember that as a little girl, the tops of my feet would itch and burn in bed at night and the only way that I could get some sleep was to flick cold water on them or wet two face cloths and drape these over my feet whilst in bed. I didn’t tell my mother because I thought it was something that everyone deals with. Only 30 years later did I discover that “there’s a remedy for that!” Had I known then, I would not have suffered in silence.
