Natural Remedies to Rid your Pets of Ticks and Fleas
Ticks and fleas are without doubt the most annoying and dangerous parasites for pets, especially dogs. Ticks can give rise to ‘tick worry’, transmit diseases to dogs, and may also bite and transmit diseases to the owners of the dogs. Fleas cause intense irritation in healthy dogs, flea-bite allergies in sensitised dogs and are the intermediate hosts of the larval stage of the dog tapeworm, Dipylidium caninum. This tapeworm may also infect humans, and especially children.
There are many gentle and safe ways to rid your dogs and cats of fleas, ticks and other parasites, without the use of harmful and toxic chemicals. Here are a few:
1. Eugenie Rowson’s Vibrational Medicine
Lachesis can be used to prevent infestation of ticks or fleas. If bitten by a tick/flea, use the Bites, Stings and Puncture Wound Formula. The Worms and Parasites Formula mouth spray is an excellent natural remedy to use for all other parasites and worms – it assists in promoting intestinal health and encourages the body’s elimination of these. This natural remedy should be taken at the change of every season by the whole family, including pets, to promote optimal intestinal health and wellbeing. To assist with any allergic reaction or skin issue as a result of ticks or fleas, use the Pet Allergy & skin disorders formula
2. Citrus Juice
The juice of a freshly squeezed orange or lemon can be rubbed onto your pet’s fur to keep fleas away before they become infested. The juice is also not harmful at all to your furry friend unless they have an allergic reaction in which case they would need to see a professional. Beware, however -oil extracts from lemon or oranges are not safe for cats and dogs at all and should not be used.
3. The wonders of a good bath
If you’re trying to rid your dog of fleas, often the only natural remedy needed is a good bath with a bit of pet shampoo. Fleas can’t stick to the hair shaft if it is wet and will fall off in the bath. You may need to bath your best buddy more than once in order to make sure you’ve been able to get rid of all the fleas sufficiently. Ticks however are harder to get off and won’t come off with an easy bath.
4. Cover up
In order to prevent ticks from latching onto your furry friend try and dress them in an old t-shirt or socks cut off as “leg warmers” if you’re embarking on a walk through long grass. This way, the ticks will have a harder time clinging onto your dog’s fur and won’t be able to transmit disease as easily. It is also important to check your friend every day if you’re in an area with long grass in order to avoid transmission. Should you find ticks on your pet, make sure that you remove them correctly or visit your nearest Vet to assist you. Should your pet have any symptoms of tick bite fever it’s important to seek professional help immediately. Natural remedies for fever are also available from Eugenie Rowson’s range of Vibrational Medicine.
If you think your pet has ticks, fleas, worms or parasites it’s important to act quickly in order to prevent the spread of disease.
