Tonsillitis is one of the most awful infections for young children and adults. Swallowing, eating and drinking is almost impossible and with it generally comes a massive fever, pain and inflammation. Any mom will know that with Tonsillitis around, a good nights sleep is almost impossible.
So what exactly is Tonsillitis?
Tonsillitis is a type of inflammatory virus that causes tissues within the tonsils to become infected with harmful bacteria. The tonsils are two small, oval-shaped pads located in your throat, which have the important job of blocking bacteria and pathogens from invading the body once they enter through the mouth. The majority of tonsillitis cases are caused by strepptococcus pyogenes. This is a bacteria often naturally found in the tonsil tissue. The problem arises when these bacteria start to outnumber the good bacteria (probiotics) in the body, thus leading to infections that can cause pain, swelling and disease-causing inflammation.
